The ICYM unit of St Antony Church, Kulur, organized a vibrant and culturally enriching Voviyo Vers training session on Sunday, April 19, 2026, from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM. The session saw active participation from 45 attendees, reflecting strong interest in preserving Konkani traditions.
The training was conducted by esteemed resource persons Mrs. Irene Rebello and Mr. Anil D’Cunha, recognized for their deep knowledge of Konkani culture and traditions. They guided participants through the meaning, significance, and traditional context of Voviyo, helping them understand its cultural richness.Participants also received practical training in singing Voviyo and verses suited for different occasions, making the session both interactive and skill-oriented.
The session not only educated participants about the heritage associated with Voviyo but also encouraged appreciation and continuity of this beautiful oral tradition. It was both engaging and insightful, leaving participants with a renewed sense of cultural pride.
Rev. Fr. Victor Vijay Lobo, Parish Priest, addressed the gathering and appreciated the initiative taken by ICYM in promoting cultural awareness. The event was also graced by PPC Vice President Mr. Vinay Rajath Dsouza, PPC Secretary Mrs. Laveena Ferrao, and Parish Pastoral Commissions Coordinator Mr. Jeevan Pereira.The session was smoothly compered by Avisha Dsouza, while Arwin Monteiro welcomed the participants and introduced the resource persons.
The program brought joy and fulfillment to all present and stood as a successful effort in nurturing and celebrating local cultural traditions.
