MANGALORE, May 25 – In a remarkable gesture of compassion and community service, the Catholic Sabha, Kulur Unit, inaugurated and handed over a newly constructed house to a deserving family, marking a major milestone in its Silver Jubilee celebrations. This ₹15 lakh housing project is the first-ever home construction initiative undertaken by a Catholic Sabha Unit within the Diocese of Mangalore.
The housewarming and key-handover ceremony was held in the presence of dignitaries and well-wishers. Bishop Emeritus of Mangalore Diocese, Most Rev. Dr Aloysius Paul Dsouza, blessed the new home and led the prayer service. The inauguration included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the formal handing over of the house keys to the family.
Rev. Fr. Victor Vijay Lobo, Parish Priest of St Antony Church, Kulur, presided over the ceremony, while Rev. Fr. John Vas, Spiritual Director of the Episcopal Deanery, served as the chief guest. Prominent personalities present included Mr. Anil Lobo, Chairman of MCC Bank; Mr. Walter Nandalike, Managing Director of Daijiworld Media Pvt Ltd; Mrs. Ida Furtado, President of the Episcopal Deanery; and Mrs. Wilma Monteiro, General Secretary of the Catholic Sabha Central Council, along with several community leaders and members.
The celebration featured traditional housewarming rituals such as the boiling of milk and setting up of new household items. Donors who supported the project were felicitated with shawls and mementos in recognition of their generosity. Special honors were bestowed upon Mr. Deepak D’Souza, the contractor and All India Catholic Union National Coordinator for Minority Affairs (Karnataka Region), for his dedicated contribution to the project.
Praising the efforts of the Kulur Unit, Bishop Emeritus Dr. Aloysius Dsouza described the initiative as “historic and inspirational.”
Mr. Walter Nandalike commended the team’s unity and spirit, noting, “This house is not just a structure — it’s a symbol of collective compassion. The quality and care behind it reflect the ‘Three Star’ standard of dedication and professionalism.
”Mr. Anil Lobo emphasized the value of community service, urging continued generosity and prayer.
In his presidential address, Fr. Victor Vijay Lobo extended heartfelt thanks to all supporters, including the family of the beneficiaries, contractor Mr. Deepak D’Souza, project convener and current Unit President Mr. Rowin D’Souza, former President Mrs. Philomena Veigas, and all past and present office bearers of the Kulur Unit.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mrs. Savitha Veigas, Secretary of the Kulur Unit. The event was compered by Miss Clevita D’Souza.This project stands as a testament to the Catholic Sabha Kulur Unit’s unwavering commitment to community upliftment, social responsibility, and faith-driven service.
