Children celebrate monsoon traditions through water games, local cuisine and faith-filled fellowship
Kulur, June 28: The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM), Kulur Unit, organized Splash Fiesta 2026 on 28 June 2026 at the Church School Hall, bringing together children, parents, parishioners and community leaders for an afternoon of fun, fellowship and traditional monsoon celebrations. The programme aimed to provide children with a memorable experience through water games while promoting friendship, teamwork and community spirit.
The inaugural programme began with a prayer song by the Catechism teachers, followed by a welcome by Mrs. Shanthi Fernandes, Coordinator of the Parish Sunday Catechism. Fr. Victor Vijay Lobo, Parish Priest of St. Antony Church, Kulur, presided over the function.
The chief guest, Mr. Anil Kumar, former Corporator, inaugurated the celebrations along with the traditional Pausa Khana (local monsoon delicacies) and Pavsa Khel (traditional monsoon games). He was felicitated by the parish in recognition of his significant contribution to the development of the ward and his continued support to the parish community.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Anil Kumar commended the ICYM Kulur Unit for organizing a meaningful programme for children. He encouraged the young participants to enjoy the activities responsibly while imbibing the values of unity, discipline, sportsmanship and teamwork.
Other dignitaries present included Fr. Arun J. Mendonca, Headmaster of Kulur High School; Dr. Vinay Rajath D’Souza, Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council; Ms. Lavina Ferrao, Secretary of the Parish Pastoral Council; Mr. Jeevan Pereira, Coordinator of the Parish Pastoral Commissions; and Ms. Juliet Janet D’Souza, Secretary of the Family Commission.
The celebration was further enriched by the presence of the diocesan ICYM leadership, including Mr. Colin Varick Ferrao, Episcopal Deanery President; Ms. Wilona D’Souza, Lady Vice President; Mr. Lanlyn Samuel D’Souza, Secretary; and Rev. Fr. Praveen D’Souza, Director of ICYM, Diocese of Mangalore. Their visit and words of encouragement inspired both the ICYM members and the participating children.
Following the inauguration, children enthusiastically took part in a series of water games and recreational activities organized by the ICYM members with the support of catechism teachers and volunteers. The programme concluded in a joyful and safe atmosphere, reflecting the vibrant spirit of parish life and youth ministry.
The inaugural programme was compered by Mr. Deyan Monteiro, while Mrs. Zeeta D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks. The games were coordinated by Mr. Liston Pinto and Mr. Arwin Monterio, whose energetic leadership contributed significantly to the success of the event.
Splash Fiesta 2026 once again demonstrated the ICYM Kulur Unit’s commitment to nurturing children through creative, faith-centred and community-oriented programmes, making the celebration a memorable experience for all who participated.
